Keep Your Head up
How are you really doing right now?
Yesterday was an off day for me. You know when something is bugging you but you don’t know what or why? You’re hypersensitive to everything that happens. Yeah, I had one of those days.
Lately, there are days when I feel like it is 2020 (Covid had just hit and the world felt dire) all over again. Especially when I read the news. So much divisiveness and hatred. It takes a toll on our emotions, bodies, and our nervous system. There is only so much we can all hold onto, process, and metabolize.
Whether you have been laid off, are looking for work, cannot pay for the increasing price of groceries and so many other things. Or you are watching friends, family, or colleagues be deported. It can feel like dystopian times.
There is a lot of darkness right now.
But — there is also a lot of light.
Light and dark coexist. You cannot have one without the other.
You can find the light in darkness when you pause and notice what you are focused on.
What are you focusing on? The light or the dark?
It takes self-awareness to know when you are turning to the darkness. That’s what those that promote darkness want you to do — to keep seeing the darkness.
Once you notice what you are looking at, it takes resilience to not let the darkness get under your skin. Our emotions can be hard to keep in check. We can become angry, sad, frustrated.
Then comes the light. The sun always comes up and some days it’s really bright and warm. It’s why when Spring starts and the sun shines more, and the flower buds pop up, you see people look and feel more free. It’s why people look like they glow when they have been in the sun. It’s the light.
So where is there light in your life?
What if we started each day looking for the light? What do you GET to do today?
3 Takeaways:
Take a moment to pause and be aware — are you looking at the light or the darkness?
Pause when you feel you are losing your mojo.
Do something that brings you towards the light. Take a walk, read a book, go to the beach, take a bath…
